Life, health, happiness, yoga, style, travel, sunshine and endless possibilities…
It’s almost Christmas time, the most indulgent season of the year, so there’s no better time of the year to check out the newly opened branch of Dirty Bones, which has recently expanded into Shoreditch in a gorgeous Grade II listed building.
I’m already a BIG fan of Dirty Bones, you will often find me eating their New York inspired comfort food & cocktails at their Kensington High Street and Kingly Court branches, so I already knew the Shoreditch branch would be good before I had even walked through the doors.
I went along to the new branch with fellow foodie, Julia Sarah Lown, for a Thursday night dinner and catch up. We were greeted by the friendly team at the door and shown to our table where we both immediately ordered The Fab cocktail, a sweet & fruity gin-based cocktail which is garnished with hundreds and thousands, and popping candy. It tasted as good as it looked 🙂
For our starters we ordered the cheeseburger dumplings, made of homemade gyoza, stuffed with aged burger mince & melted cheese, and the deep fried mac balls, served with sweet chilli sauce. Both starters took comfort food to the next level – so delicious but with a fun twist. The cheeseburger dumplings might sound strange but I can assure you they are so tasty, and the deep fried mac balls make one of my favourite snacks a whole lot more fun to eat.
Our main course was huge, we ordered the beef short rib, in salted caramel and burnt onion BBQ sauce, chicken & waffles, cheesy truffle fries, mac & cheese, and baked aubergine with gruyere cheese. As mentioned in the title of my review – there was no holding back! This dinner was the king of cheat meals and worth every scrumptious bite! The tender & juicy beef melted off the bone and straight into my mouth, and the chicken and waffles were amazing – I don’t often pair my meat with maple syrup, but I should do more as the combination is an absolute winner.
After a long break, we eventually found space for some dessert, choosing the milk & cookies, and the coffee & donuts. Simple dishes and the perfect way to finish our meal, all washed down with the Top Dog & Cherry Bakewell cocktails.
The entire meal was great, and while I knew it would be, it really did exceed my expectations. I was so impressed with not only the food & drink, but also the warm service, the retro décor, and the old school hip hop & soul music. I can’t wait to go back, but it will have to be on a day when I’ve been to the gym first! (It’s all about balance!).
