Life, health, happiness, yoga, style, travel, sunshine and endless possibilities…
When it comes to city breaks outside of London, it’s so hard to choose which city to go to! With the whole of Europe on your doorstep, yet time constraints, you don’t want to make the wrong choice when it comes to where to go and where to stay.
One of my favourite recent city break trips has been to Amsterdam, Netherlands, just a 45-minute flight from London; full of culture, beautiful sights and history; and best of all… perfect for getting lost in. I stayed at the Canal House Hotel, located in the heart of the Jordaan, the city’s cultural centre. The boutique hotel has just 23 bedrooms, is situated on the Keizergracht canal and is comprised of seventeenth century merchants’ houses.
All of the rooms at the hotel are full of Dutch art and history, and range from regular double rooms to more opulent and spacious rooms. I stayed in The Best Room, the largest room at the hotel taking up the whole of the top floor with it’s own private corridor. The room had incredible sweeping views over the Keizersgracht canal, an enormous lounge area, a bathroom in the middle of the room and gorgeous sleeping area.
The hotel and room felt like ‘home’ straight away and I was really impressed with the excellent service, food, furnishings and views. At times, I didn’t want to leave the room, it was so relaxing with everything I needed.
Additionally, for those of you who are wondering if the food in Amsterdam is good, I can say it absolutely is! The food at the hotel was delicious, and outside of the hotel, we had a fantastic dinner one night at the Bluespoon Restaurant at the Andaz Hotel, as well as amazing cocktails at Tales and Spirits cocktail bar.
The hotel was walking distance to all of the famous sites and places of interest. I loved walking along the canals and enjoying the lack of traffic, car horns, busses, stressed out commuters and pollution… something that London has a little too much of. The museums were fascinating and interesting, and the city had an overall chilled-out vibe.
Finally, no trip would be complete for me without a spot of yoga! Naturally, I took a few opportunities to stop, drop and yoga!
