Life, health, happiness, yoga, style, travel, sunshine and endless possibilities…
I love to be surprised and was certainly caught off guard when I entered Min Jiang restaurant on the 10th floor of the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington. I was warmly greeted by the Min Jiang staff and gorgeous picture-perfect panoramic views across Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park.
Min Jiang serves Chinese cuisine from some of China’s most famous gastronomic provinces, and is renowned for its signature dish, the legendary Beijing Duck, which is cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven following ancient Chinese traditions. The restaurant is housed in a light and airy, long, penthouse space with spacious tables, fine linen and a wall of vases inspired by the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
I was invited along to the restaurant with fellow London lifestyle blogger, Inna from Start Up Your Happiness, to try their seasonal Winter Warmers Menu, which is available Monday-Friday for just £30 per person. The menu is set with a starter of Min Jiang Sichuan hot & sour soup, followed by some of the traditional mains of sautéed Gong Bao corn-fed chicken, seasonal vegetables in ginger sauce and stir-fried noodles with scallops & prawns, all served with traditional oolong tea.
The service at the restaurant was perfect, all of the staff were polite and helpful, ensuring we had a wonderful experience at Min Jiang. The food was delicious – and being from Hong Kong, I know when Chinese cuisine is up to standard!
The soup was really hot & spicy (exactly as I like it), not the mild, watered down version that some of the other Chinese restaurants in London serve. Our main course was generously portioned (we didn’t finish it all!), the chicken was tender and flavoursome, and the noodles were incredibly moreish. It was great to try a little of everything and of course, the views across the park made the whole experience even more special.
The only downside? I wish London could have guaranteed sunshine! However, that’s another reason for me to return! Not only do I want to try the Min Jiang signature Beijing duck dish, I would also love to see a sunset over the park while eating some delicious food, so will definitely be back soon!
Also for Londoners who don’t have time for a full sit-down meal but still want a little taste of Min Jiang – the bar area also overlooks the park and serves amazing cocktails.
