Life, health, happiness, yoga, style, travel, sunshine and endless possibilities…
With 60,000 Swedes living in London and a large part of the capital gripped by “Scandimania”, Fredrik Olsson & Maria Trechman have set up Skandilicious just in time for Christmas to help make the city ‘a little sweder’ and naturally, I had to go and experience it for myself!
Skandilicious is London’s latest pop-up dining experience, which is open for six weeks until 21 December and offers Londoners a traditional Swedish Christmas dinner experience in Farringdon (tickets cost £45 per person). Diners are invited to enjoy all the culinary delights they desire from the exuberant Smörgåsbord feast. Set in an exciting Scandi-chic environment where food and drink is only one part of the experience… Swedish Christmas is a journey for all of the senses and starts with a warm glass of Glögg (Swedish mulled wine) served with almond & raisins.
Swedish chefs prepare a mouth-watering selection of Swedish delights for you to pick from the Julbord (the Christmas version of a Smörgåsbord), which includes delicious gravlax, liver pate, herring, cured meats, soft cheese and roe dip cake, beetroot salad, forest mushroom omelette, potato gratin, warm smoked salmon with sauce verte, Prinskorv sausages, Swedish meatballs, Christmas ribs and much, much more! Fredrik, the co-founder, advises that with every bite of fish, it’s customary to take a sip of Swedish schnapps because ‘the fish swims in the water’! I must also add, the juicy Swedish meatballs and succulent Christmas ribs in particular are absolutely delicious!
Make sure you leave space for dessert because the Swedish Julgröt pudding, Rice a la Malta, saffron cake and chocolate mousse are all to die for! One almond is put in the Swedish Julgröt pudding (rice pudding) and when served, according to Swedish tradition, whoever gets the almond will be married within the year!
After dinner you can retire to the Loft Bar and enjoy cocktails from the specially designed Christmas Cocktail Menu (prepared by co-founder & award winning mixologist Fredrik Olsson). My favourite cocktail on the menu is Freddie’s Frosted Bellini – it’s perfectly sweet and guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
The whole experience is contemporary yet true to Swedish tradition and I loved every minute of it! It was my first Swedish Christmas dinner and hopefully not my last – Maria & Fredrik bring together an unforgettable Christmas treat quite unlike any other!
