Sofitel St James: Spa & Dine with ‘De-Light’

Life in London is non-stop, it revolves around working, socialising, exercising, dining and sleeping. With so little time between each activity, it’s not always easy to take care of yourself. There are times that I find myself frequently working overtime, eating unhealthy foods, drinking too much alcohol, not exercising enough and getting too little sleep, and I often don’t even realise that I’m doing all of these things until I’m doing them far too much!

The perfect way to counter these moments of excessive living is to do something which helps to re-balance both the mind and body, so I could not have been happier when Sofitel St James, one of London’s most luxurious and beautiful hotels, invited myself and fellow lifestyle expert, Inna, to try their signature De-Light Spa package (£111 for approximately 2-3 hours). The package, designed to nourish your mind and body, comprises of a skin-glowing treatment and a relaxing massage in the So Spa, followed by a two-course meal and a refreshing cocktail served at The Balcon.

Our day of pampering started with a skin brightening 30-minute Papaya Radiance Scrub, which smelt as good as it sounds and left our skin baby soft! This was followed by a soothing 30-minute bespoke massage, leaving us feeling relaxed and energized. Conveniently, we were in one of the twin treatment rooms (perfect for friends and couples), so we could still chat to one another throughout. We were then invited to enjoy a soothing cup of green tea served in the calming surroundings of So Spa’s deep relaxation lounge. By this point, I was feeling so relaxed and pampered that I actually fell asleep!

The experience then continued at the hotel’s restaurant, The Balcon, where we were welcomed with a Roland Garros Cocktail – a subtle blend of basil, lime, jasmine tea, soda and cucumber – followed by a gourmet, yet calorie-friendly, lunch from the De-Light menu.

Two courses from the De-Light menu can amount to as little as 300 calories and is prepared with health and wellness in mind. It avoids produce with high fat content and focuses on spices, strong flavours and healthy cooking methods such as roasting, steaming and poaching.   The menu is ideal for those who love exquisite cuisine, are being healthy but still want to eat out.

The restaurant staff at The Balcon were incredibly welcoming and friendly, explaining to us in detail each item on the menu. For my starter course, I chose the Carpaccio of smoked salmon, chives, low fat cream cheese, asparagus and lemon – it was so tasty, the salmon was very fresh and delicate. For my main course, I selected the Grilled sea bream, flavoured with wild fennel, tomato and sweet pepper cream – again, it was excellent! The menu also included Cornish sea bass fillet with a macedoine of turnips and carrots, red beetroot and caramel sauce; baked tomato filled with tuna mousse on a cucumber tart; as well as seemingly indulgent desserts such as molten mango cake with a light coconut ice cream.

By the end of the meal, I felt so relaxed and nourished! The De-Light Spa package is wonderful for those who want to indulge without the guilt. The spa treatments are revitalising and the De-Light menu is perfectly balanced and bursting with flavours at the same time. The whole experience was simply….delightful!
