Life, health, happiness, yoga, style, travel, sunshine and endless possibilities…
Like all busy Londoners, between my work life, my home life and my microadventures, it’s not hard to feel somewhat exhausted and look a little weary – this is when it helps to have a good spa on speed dial!
I generally approach skincare with a ‘natural works best’ frame of mind, however, increasingly, I keep reading about skincare going high-tech, and with the advancement of technology, there are now a whole slew of devices that glow, vibrate, and heat up to keep your skin smooth, clean, and blemish-free. We live in a tech-obsessed world so it’s no surprise the beauty industry has caught on. Consequently, I had to indulge my fear of missing out and find out if a futuristic approach can actually help or if it is all hype. With this in mind, it was only natural for me to accept an invitation from Spa Illuminata situated in the heart of London’s Mayfair for a 3D Skin Tech Facial (£180 for 90 minutes).
With an entrance which wouldn’t look out of place on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills and an interior reminiscent of traditional Roman and Greek spas, Spa Illuminata is a haven of tranquillity and the perfect environment to nurture the spirit of modern life. By combining the healing and restorative powers of nature and the most advanced techniques of modern science, the spa offers a unique approach to holistic skin and body care.
Following a very thorough consultation with Lucia, who also carried out my facial, I discovered that the 3D Skin Tech Facial is a revolution in skincare and excels at reversing the signs of ageing and fatigue, fading blemishes and tightening the skin. It is a highly technological, result driven treatment with effective and long lasting results. The facial uses a combination of the following tools:
Diamond Microdermabrasion – A highly effective microdermabrasion tool which uses a diamond-head exfoliation with suction. It helps to reduce fine lines, sun damage & skin congestion, as well as, evens out skin tone. This painless treatment felt like what can only be described as a mini vacuum cleaner being run across my face.
Radio Frequency Skin Tightening – This helps to break down the old collagen in the face and stimulates new collagen production. Not only does it plump the skin, it also tightens, smoothens and softens. This provided probably one of the strangest sensations I’ve ever experienced in my face as it felt hot and tingly. However, I was assured that this reaction was normal for clients having this treatment for the first time. It is the type of sensation which you definitely need to get used to!
Electro Mesotherapy – This breaks down the cell walls to enable ingredients to be delivered into the cell where their impact is maximised. The treatment increases hydration and encourages plumpness. Again, this delivered a funny sensation, like a slight prickling – it definitely felt electric.
LED Light Therapy – A relaxing and healing treatment in one. Full canopy LED ensures rapid and effective treatment of ageing, blemishes and skin healing.
After the treatment my skin was glowing! It felt so soft and looked beautifully refreshed, radiant, flawless and plump. I was incredibly impressed with the results of the 3D Skin Tech Facial, I cannot recommend it highly enough and I also credit Lucia, the beauty therapist, for making me both look and feel fabulous. Admittedly, it’s not the cheapest facial on the market, but it is absolutely 100% worth the investment. I departed the spa into the glorious Spring sunshine with a big smile on my face and bag full of Carita and Decléor products to help me stay gorgeous at home.
