Life, health, happiness, yoga, style, travel, sunshine and endless possibilities…
Last week I was invited to the Sweaty Betty SS14 press party. In short: I loved it! The collection has been inspired by the architecture of boats, admiralty charts and sails as well as the vintage era of the 1950s, when sailing became a glamorous pastime.
‘We wanted to capture that feeling of fighting against the wind and the waves, against the elemental forces which can be so strong out at sea and not giving in to them,’ says Tamara Hill Norton, Founder and Creative Director of Sweaty Betty.
Exploring the Spring 2014 theme ‘Against The Elements’, the in house design team created a collection inspired by the great British outdoors. Yoga wear to running, outdoor training to swimwear, the truly multi sport brand pioneers an active lifestyle for women. Colour palettes have been tailored to individual sports with softer palettes reserved for yoga, dance and cooldown ranges, whilst running, outdoor training and workout showcase an array of neons and high vis trims.
Blurring the lines between fashion and sport, it’s the details and styling that take this range from workout to post class down-time. Fluro pops and marls mixed with stripes create a strong directional look across the running and outdoor ranges, cutaway back details and delicate straps give the dance range a delicate touch, soft brushed jersey sweats create a relaxed vibe in the cooldown and spa ranges.
‘If I had to choose one piece from the season it would be a cut above the waist loose vest – it was inspired by a top I saw someone wearing in the summer, it looked like they had just cut up and customised one of their old sweats which I loved – I wanted one for running in on the beach. The version we have developed has a print of a picture of my kids on their boat last summer that my husband took and it looks amazing with the sunset in the background,’ says Tamara.
I am honestly so excited about this collection and cannot wait to find an excuse to wear it all! Every item is special and with a collection that pushes the technical boundaries yet retains the fashion edge, Spring Summer 14 at Sweaty Betty will see you through the season in style.
