The Power of The Pause


The author and cartoonist, Ashleigh Brilliant, once said:

“Sometimes the most urgent and vital thing you can possibly do is take a complete rest.”

This is what massage means to me.

Massage is one of my favourite mind and body indulgences. It forces me to completely relax.  I take pleasure in turning my phone off and disconnecting from work and other commitments.  Massage helps to soothe away all the stress and strains of modern living.  I enjoy deep tissue massages, which focus on realigning deeper layers of muscles.  I find them so relaxing that I am often close to falling asleep on the table. I am prone to tension in my upper back and shoulders but once I’ve spent ninety minutes on a massage table, I feel fabulous – the tension is kneaded out and my muscles can move more freely.

I highly advise anyone who is interested in massage to go.  The many benefits include:

  • Reduced muscle tension
  • Improved circulation
  • Stimulation of the lymphatic system
  • Reduction of stress hormones
  • Increased joint mobility and flexibility
  • Improved skin tone
  • Faster healing of soft tissue injuries
  • Heightened mental alertness
  • Reduced anxiety and depression

My go-to venue for massages, and run by my good friend Mark Salnicki, is The London College of Massage.  All of the massage practitioners at The London College of Massage are qualified, knowledgeable, committed and have years of experience.  I have never left disappointed!  I have been so impressed with the college that in a couple of weeks I will participate in The London College of Massage’s Beginners Introductory Weekend Course.  I cannot wait to learn the different massage techniques for myself!  The course covers:

  • A ‘seated’ neck, shoulder & head massage routine
  • A massage routine for the back of legs, back, neck & face
  • Contra-indications to massage
  • An introduction to Aromatherapy oils

I’ll post more details of the course once I’ve completed it 🙂
